work for the future

Beaches upon beaches upon beaches. Now I finally understand why a lot of Europeans move over here.

it’s time to continue

life moves fast

and this year apparently

it’s life on speed

so to remember it all:

after two weeks of vacation

it was time to return to reality

kind of, but in Brazil

I decided to stay in Campinas

a smaller, calmer, safer city

with a population of Estonia

to stay close to the university

with the Brazilian office of our company

that I never stepped foot into

I moved into a student (ghost) house

and moved out the next day

to rent our very first apartment

go big or go home, in Brazil

I had many coffees and just worked

worked the old software job

and on getting a new job

worked on getting a tan

and an overdose of watermelon

worked on my anxiety

realizing that I am in fact

walking alone on the streets

in the middle of Brazil

and home is really far away

the last month there was basically

a real-life simulation of life

we also worked outside of work

on finding any capybaras

with some success

to find the best acai in town

we worked so hard

we even found Holland in Brazil

and turns out the capybabies

actually live out there

between the windmills and swanboats

we even worked out

practicing muay thai

in a university park

(with shoes on)

in 30 degrees sun, or

rain, hail, thunder, and darkness

the last two weeks of Brazil

I experienced the carnival

not with the huge parade

but like the locals do

a Sunday bloc in Campinas

with students and SP beats

“the easy level”

then the medium one, Ubatuba

with a million people driving

from the cities to the coastline

waiting in traffic jams for hours

with us trying to walk half the way

down a steep mountain road

I still think it was fun

the imminent landslides

deciding our next days

going to beaches further away

proving that I have no limit

when it comes to

caipirinhas, picanha or garlic bread

went on a small yacht trip

jumping from beach to beach

cherishing every last moment

this country and its people

had shared with me

and for the very last days

in this beautiful country

got rid of most of my hair

bought another suitcase

to bring home the tapioca

cachaça and soap I gathered

got the “hard” carnival experience

the kind no Estonian is ready for

with thousands of people

moving along with the truck

where BaianaSystem was performing on

it’s terrifying, but it’s an experience

and that’s what life is for

just like that

my 6 weeks in Brazil were over

with São Paulo airport security

deciding when it’s time to let go

as quickly as a passport stamp

the book of Brazil was closed

muito obrigada ❤🇧🇷

Epilogue:

even that far away, in Brazil

I celebrated Estonia’s independence day

with a piece of cake

because it’s that easy

for it to be taken away

and voted in the national elections

for a party that has no impact

but at least I didn’t support

whatever is happening right now

over there, I also decided

to not stay in Estonia anymore

got a new job, and a new home

in Norway, where I’m now

still around the same pond

so this blog of life will go on

Home away from home.
Let me know if you ever need an acai recommendation in Campinas, Brazil.
Holland!
The animals, the myths, the legends – the capybaras. SO popular on social media right now, it’s ridiculous. Even though they live like this in the “wild”, you shouldn’t touch them – they have ticks.
The lake area with the swan (goose) boats after the capybaras.
Here you can see the obvious reason why every orchid I have ever owned has died. I did not grow it like this.
Seems like a nice place to walk, right? I agree.
The land conveniently decided to slide onto the roads exactly during the main carnival weekend which caused 3-4 hour delays in traffic as the land had to be escorted off the road, of course.
Some places are more magical than others.
Garlic bread, picanha and sausages in the making! I do miss a good churrascaria.
Our carnival home also looked really picturesque.
Practicing muay thai with a trainer who does not speak English is nothing new for me but these classes were just amazing.
A small handful of all the people in the “hard level” of the carnival. This was not even a lot of people for carnival standards.
One last look on the skyline of São Paulo.
