Portologue

I was planning a trip

for April 2020

to the place

that is placed

on the number one spot

on my list of spots

I was not rich enough

to lose it for a lockdown

but dreams do come true

if you make them

after all, it’s 2020, too

it all started with impermanence

a month after returning

delusional with covid

aiming out, I bought it

a one-way round-trip

to hike with a T-shirt

there’s still no ticket back

it is on my mind

somewhere in the back

first there was vacation

arriving without a vision

the first of its kind

with only my own business to mind

just a bed in a dorm

and a list of things I wanted to eat

so I started walking

in Porto, the city

that is so not flat

but so full of tourists

I enjoyed the city a lot

and its people

so close to my heart ❤️

”drink a lot of wine

but don’t eat bread”

I tried 10 wines in a day

(just one day, okay)

regarding the bread

give me a break

I walk 20K per day

and had pastel de natas

for breakfast every day

cod does not taste like much

but you should try bacalhau

”the salted version”

a bit too expensive

for a daily treat

but otherwise, so great

don’t buy it from the store

it takes three days to prepare

within a year I’ve gone from

cow milk cappuccinos

to shots of espressos

may it be the bitterest part

of the rest of my sunny Portugal

✨to be continued✨

The vineyard dog. After he joined us on a walk around the yard, he layed himself down under a tree and started snoring – his name is Bolt.
The beautiful Douro valley looks mostly like this and I really recommend to visit it – for both the wine and the landscapes.
A bird-eye view from the top of the church¡
My very first meal in Portugal – bacalhau.
The CHUUUURCH – with a bell tower that you can visit while being squeezed between other tourists!
My one step closer to becoming a real Portuguese – watching the sunset over Jardim do Morro.
Behind-the-sunset views over the most impoortant part of Porto – the river.
Just a lovely view (you can always see a bridge somehow).
The local chicken¡ There were also ’normal’ chicken and roosters in that garden but I found this one a bit more special.
The romantic secret paths of Porto.
It sure does look and feel a bit better than the weather in Estonia. If they’re lucky, it is snowing now.
I have just this one picture of the blue tiles seen in all the Instagram posts about Porto. The train station did look lovely.
I found the Estonian flag in Porto¡ (embassy)
I also found more animals in the city besides the million cats who were not interested in communicating with me. This is in a huge garden that has a modern art museum and a farm all in one.
And the main reason why we are all here now – my love for the Atlantic ocean.
