week thirteen: volcano

I don’t think a view can get any better than this.

first time was a hike

second time a climb

third time’s the charm

like a stroll

on the beach

or a potato field

with the most amazing view

the Icelanders are experts

on turning the nature

into a tourist attraction

add business hours

create a parking lot

for a thousand cars

coat the moss with gravel

it’s dead anyway

aimed to see

the burning hill

during the night

arrived at the parking spot

at 21 PM

the sun was shining

and it never really left

climbed the hill

on loose soil

skied down

on the steepest side

I really should invest

in hiking boots

I made a promise

to cook marshmallows

on lava

during the night

I don’t break promises

but it doesn’t mean

I came prepared

I always had

the marshmallows with me

but forgot the sticks

didn’t stop us this time

the marshmallows

were put straight on lava

first five

died in blue flames

others were consumed raw

but after the rescue team

left the site at 12 AM

find a block of lava

not too close

to the glowing rocks

place it on there

the sensation

of your face burning

is worth it

step back

for when the wall of lava

wants to become the floor

if not, save your sweets

and enjoy

with a crunchy side

of rock salt

they stick together

through everything

it feels like home

I don’t even mind

the toxic gases

in my nose and lungs

don’t ever stop me

from going back

Stumble uphill to see the sunset volcano.
The source of heat I’d like to have in my home. It’s environmentally friendly.
My camera could not handle the beauty of this place.
Lava marshmallows are the best kind of marshmallows.
The sky never got darker than this.
2.30 AM volcano aurora.
I could look at this view forever if the wind wasn’t so cold and the stones so sharp.
