week seven: volcanic eruption

The beginning of Iceland’s newest hill.

Eestikeelne originaalversioon.

the culmination of three weeks

when 40 000 earthquakes

became a volcanic eruption

which even spread

to the Estonian news

movie night on Friday

live of the volcanic eruption

red glowing cloudy sky

a miracle that in the same night’s news

according to the experts

was not even supposed to happen

Mother Nature did not see this interview

a miracle happening every 5 years

did not come as a surprise to the Icelander

but had it erupted on a Monday

perhaps the biggest public event of the year

would have been cancelled

fortunately I also attended the event

as an initiative from the new volunteers

(us)

three cars were rented

and headed for the newest hill

oven-warm hilly banana bread

40 km later

together with hundreds of others

walking along a closed road

along an ancient lava field

which was now a mixture

of lava, moss, and bicycles

“Don’t step on the moss

it grows back 70 years”

did not work here 😦

only 10 km from the car to the volcano

up the soil mountain

in a stormy wind for the Estonian

half of the people in hiking clothes

half – sneakers and jeans are okay too?

the hill smelling like a potato field

I’m still a country child

end stop of the long hike

swept the fatigue from the legs

feel the heat of the Earth’s crust

touch the lava that two days ago

deep inside the Earth

shook your world

there are all kinds of people

the local, who tries to fry bacon

with his pan on lava

loses his lunch

to the 600 degree rock mix

at least he got on national television

there weren’t supposed to be

mosquitoes in this country

however, there was a constant

buzz above our heads

to save the drone

would walk even on lava

who cares that it’s still steaming

(your drones are great, brother ❤ )

I belong to the category

whose pulse rises to the ceiling

who runs higher up the hill

when one wall of the volcano

breaks down

it’s fun

but we have no chance

we spent two hours

next to the heat of the Earth’s crust

ate banana bread and chocolate

drank tea and lemonade

how is it possible

that I’m in such a place at such a time?

see where decisions can lead me

on the way back

I was so happy

that doing some trash hunting

would bring the mood back to Earth

two days ago

no soul walked that path

today there are thousands

who have gone through it

I picked up 20 cigarette buds

and these were just the ones

that landed on the path

why are you doing this?

Park your car here and follow all the other local tourists.

Bicycle field, the beginning of the “real” hike.

You’d come up with sneakers from here, right?

The local had to remove the pan from the first oven plate because the lava decided to move. This blue gas is toxic.

Find the pan and its last resting place in the picture.

A volcano with a missing wall. Find the mosquito in the picture.

A good warm place to have lunch.
